What happened in Uruguay vs Colombia?

Uruguay looked like they had a chance of going all the way in the Copa America this summer but eventually had to settle for third place after being stopped in their tracks by Colombia in the semifinal.

The Colombians won 1-0 in extra time but that game is remembered for what happened after the full-time whistle rather than what transpired during the match.

Ugly scenes ensued after the game at the Bank of America Stadium in North Carolina, with the Uruguay players getting into an altercation with the Colombia fans, who were allegedly attacking the section of the stadium where the family members of the Uruguayan players were seated.

Four-match ban for Rodrigo Bentancur

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez was even seen climbing into the stands while Bentancur threw a bottle at the crowd.

The Sun have now confirmed that Nunez has been hit with a five-match international ban while the Tottenham midfielder will miss four games for his country.

Mathias Olivera, Ronaldo Araujo and Jose Gimenez have been hit with three-match suspensions each.

None of these suspensions are applicable at club level.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is not bad news for Spurs at all as Bentancur will stay back at Hotspur Way and get some rest during the international break rather than flying halfway around the world to play two matches.
