Topeka storm debris cleanup could last for weeks
TOPEKA (KSNT) - City of Topeka leaders say it will be another few weeks before cleanup crews finish picking up storm debris left behind by a microburst earlier this month.
Work crews have been busy collecting tree limbs in several neighborhoods in Topeka following the August microburst that hit the north Topeka, Potwin and Oakland areas. Despite the daily work, there are still many tree limbs left over which need to be collected. Almost 28,000 yards of storm debris as of Aug. 26.
The City of Topeka hired third-party contractors to help with the massive task. People who still have branches in their yards are encouraged by Mayor Mike Padilla to let the city know by reporting it on the SeeClickFix app or by calling City Hall at 785-368-3940.
“If you have a lot of problems there with the debris and the fallout from the storm give them a call," Padilla said. "Don’t expect it to be the next day but that way we can make sure you’re on the list and we can get it scheduled and get the debris picked up as much as we can.”
The City of Topeka has launched an interactive map online to show where crews have completed their work. You can find the map by clicking here.
