Convicted Troy man sentenced for dating robbery scheme
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A Troy man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty in July to first-degree robbery. Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly said William Camino, 19, was also sentenced to five years of probation following his prison sentence.
Camino admitted on Wednesday, July 24, that he and a co-defendant robbed a man at gunpoint after using the dating app Tinder to set up a fake date with the victim. Camino and the co-defendant met the victim, stealing his phone and wallet on Sunday, Feb. 18.
Co-defendant Karina Carroll pleaded guilty to the indicted charges in July and will serve five years in prison and five years of probation. Co-defendant Terry Adams is remanded to Rensselaer County Jail.
