Amsterdam hot dog joint closing after two years

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Guge's Dogs, located at 43 Bridge Street in Amsterdam, is closing its doors. Owner Joseph Gugliemelli made the announcement on Facebook on August 27.

"It is with mixed emotions that we announce that Guge's Dogs will be closing," read the post. "Friday, September 13 will be our last day open."

Gugliemelli told NEWS10 that the closure is mainly due to rising food costs. "It just doesn't seem feasible anymore to do it," he said.

Gugliemelli started up Guge’s Dogs as a small hot dog cart back in 2016. He then opened the hot dog joint on Bridge Street in August 2022.

As for what's next, Gugliemelli said he doesn't have any solidified plans yet but might still offer private event catering. "I was thinking about maybe picking up a hot dog cart again and going back to our roots," said Gugliemelli.

Guge's Dogs serves hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries, nachos, and a variety of breakfast options. Until its last day, the restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"It has been our pleasure to be able to serve all of you, we appreciate you," read the Facebook post. "We have met some amazing people throughout the last couple of years and will certainly miss our customers but we will hold on to all of the wonderful memories."
