Weather Alert Day: Hot and humid, scattered storms later

Central Ohio Weather and Radar

The Storm Prediction Center has most of Ohio in a Level 2 out of 5 (Slight) risk for severe storms late this afternoon. Some storms could contain strong winds or possibly damaging wind gusts, heavy rain and frequent lightning.

A broad area of high pressure over the Midwest continues to bring the heat, with scattered clouds. Temperatures will soar into the mid-90s for the fourth consecutive day, but with higher humidity it will feel like it's around 100 degrees.

Scattered storms will develop near a boundary in northern Ohio and then head southeast through the evening hours. Showers and storms will diminish early tonight, as the boundary sags south toward the Ohio River.

The weak front will shift back north on Thursday, with the risk of more scattered storms. Little relief from the heat and humidity is expected until a cold front dips south across the region late on Friday, triggering a few showers and storms. Temperatures will again reach the mid-90s to close out the workweek.

A few showers and storms are likely Saturday afternoon, as temperatures warm into the upper 80s. More seasonable weather will return behind the cold front for the remainder of the holiday weekend.

The weather will gradually cool, with lower humidity on Labor Day. High will reach the mid- to upper 80s on Sunday, and then struggle to hit 80 on Monday. Morning lows will fall back into the lower 60s.
