Russell Wilson Named Starting Quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers

Russell Wilson has been named the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2024 season.

It was a heated QB competition this summer, with the 35-year-old athlete signing a one year deal with the team earlier this year. The Steelers then brought in young quarterback Justin Fields as some competition, and it was largely a mystery about who would win the starting job. Justin will act as the backup to Russell.

Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed today that Russell would be the starter for the opening game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday (September 8).

Russell last played for the Denver Broncos, but was benched by the end of last season. Justin was originally drafted by the Chicago Bears before heading to the Steelers.

The NFL season kicks off on Thursday (September 5).
