City to close portion of Mt. Tabor dog park for repairs

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The City of Portland will shut down a section of Mt. Tabor Park’s off-leash dog park starting Sept. 3 to fix erosion damage occurring on the hillside.

Portland Parks & Recreation spokesperson Mark Ross said that the closure will last approximately three weeks. PP&R employees plan to keep an eastern portion of the dog park open during the construction.

“Work will address ongoing erosion and instability issues in the area and aims to improve conditions prior to the rainy season,” Ross said.

Workers will spend the next few weeks removing sliding debris, stabilizing the hillside and installing fences. The repairs will improve stormwater conditions and maintain the health and stability of the park’s ecosystem, PP&R said.

The city asks that park visitors follow directions and keep pets clear of all closed areas during the construction.
