Passengers smoking on flight get suspended prison sentence

Two passengers, aged 50 and 44, who were smoking during a flight and drinking booze they had brought onto the plane in their luggage, were handed suspended prison sentences of four months each by the Paphos district court.

The court heard that on August 26, the crew of a flight arriving at Paphos airport from Manchester had reported two passengers from Britain, a man and a woman, for smoking e-cigarettes despite repeated warnings.

They were also consuming alcoholic drinks they had boarded the plane with, were noisy and swore at the crew when asked to calm down.

The two passengers were taken before the Paphos district court on Wednesday, where they admitted their offences and received suspended sentences.
