Jet2 launching new UK flights to one of Europe’s cheapest cities – where beers are £1.25 and hotels cost £21

ONE of the cheapest city break destinations in Europe is going to get brand new flights from the UK with Jet2, as well as extra flights from other regional hubs.

A new route from Glasgow to Budapest has been announced by the budget airline, as part of its huge programme of winter flights, for the 2025/26 season.

The new twice weekly service will fly on Mondays and Fridays from November 28 next year, until December 15.

The airline has said that the new flights have been launched in response to “strong demand for Christmas market getaways”.

In addition to the new Glasgow route, extra flights are being put on to Budapest from a number of other airports by Jet2.

They include Birmingham, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle.

It’s easy to see why the Hungarian capital is so popular with tourists, with pints available from around £1.25, according to the Tipsy Tours, who say that at most, a drink will cost £2.50.

They recommend drinking locals brews like Borsodi and Dreher, which are among the cheaper options for visitors heading to the city.

As well as more affordable drinks, its accommodation isn’t bad either.

A night for two in the city can be booked from £21 – making it a great affordable holiday option.

Visitors to the city can also cruise along the Danube, gaze out across the city from Buda Castle and visit the world’s “most beautiful” cafe.

Seven other new routes are being launched as part of the winter programme, including two from Bournemouth.

The south coast airport will get new flights to both Prague and Vienna.

Vienna will also be linked to Belfast and Liverpool when the new routes are launched next winter.

Meanwhile, other new flights will head from East Midlands Airport to Berlin, Newcastle to Gdansk and London Stansted to Krakow.

Jet2 boss Steve Heapy said: “The demand we are seeing for our enormously popular Christmas Markets programme continues to increase, which is why we have responded with our biggest choice ever for winter 25/26.

Other new flights coming to the UK

Jet2 isn’t the only airline launching new winter flights, with Ryanair adding new routes from London Stansted Airport.

The budget airline will have new flights to Dubrovnik in Croatia, Linz in Austria, Reggio in Italy and Sarajevo in Bosnia.

Ryanair’s CEO Michael O’Leary said: “We are pleased to announce four new Ryanair routes from London to Dubrovnik, Linz, Reggio & Sarajevo for Winter 2024.

“[This adds] to Ryanair’s UK schedule of over 640 routes, giving UK citizens/visitors even more choice at the lowest airfares in the UK.”

Some of the new flights can be found for as little as £14.99, so are a great option for a bargain break abroad.

Meanwhile, easyJet has announced a new route to Paris from Leeds Bradford for this winter.

The twice weekly service will take off on Mondays and Fridays, from October 28 and will continue through the winter until March 28 next year.

Tickets for the flights are on sale now and can already be booked via the airline’s website from £23.99.

“With a fantastic selection of Christmas Market breaks on sale from across all 12 of our UK airport bases, including Bournemouth Airport, this latest programme is our biggest and best yet.

“Since announcing our arrival at Bournemouth Airport, the response has been fantastic so we know the launch of this new programme will big hit with customers in the region.”

The flights are already on sale now for holidaymakers looking to plan their trips in advance.

Tickets are available from £49 via the Jet2 website.

Meanwhile, Europe’s best airline is planning to launch new flights to the world’s most visited city from two UK airports.

And the world’s biggest island is to build three new airports.
