Oakland: Four arrested following freeway shooting, pursuit

OAKLAND – Four people were arrested Tuesday in connection with a freeway shooting in Oakland, according to authorities.

The shooting was reported around 2:10 a.m. near westbound Interstate 580 and Golf Links Road, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release. Moments later, officers spotted the suspect vehicle, a Nissan sedan with no plates, speeding on the freeway.

The driver did not pull over for officers, who gave chase. Three people got out of the car when it eventually stopped at Bayshore Boulevard and Hester Avenue in San Francisco. The CHP said they tried to run away but were quickly taken into custody.

A fourth person in the Nissan drove away but the vehicle was spotted a short time later on southbound Highway 101. Officers pursued the car until it crashed near Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto.

The driver was arrested. The CHP said officers also recovered an AK-47 with extended magazines, as well as spent casings.

The CHP Oakland Area Major Crimes Unit is handling the investigation into the shooting.
