Baby girl back at home after suffering injuries in Berkeley hit-and-run

BERKELEY — A 9-month old girl who suffered a head injury and more than one broken bone in a hit-and-run collision has been discharged from a hospital, and police have arrested the person suspected of hitting her, authorities said.

The girl was injured Monday. According to police, her father pushed her stroller across Alcatraz Avenue at the intersection of Dover Street, when a dark-colored car going east on Alcatraz hit the stroller about 8:15 a.m.

The 32-year-old man driving the vehicle initially stopped, then took off south on Dover Street, police said. Officers arrested him Thursday on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, police said.

Police found the man after a witness took a picture of the license plate. Police said they entered that information into a “felony want” for a black 2000 Chrysler 300 into their system.

A license-plate reader notified San Leandro police that the Chrysler was in their area Thursday, and they found it in an undisclosed shopping center parking lot. Officers detained the man upon his return and notified Berkeley police. Officers from that agency arrived and arrested him, police said.
