Monroe officials honor 4 first responders who saved a 3-year-old's life after shooting
MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) -- Four first responders were honored Wednesday by Monroe officials for saving the life of a three-year-old.
The Monroe Police Department and Monroe Fire Department responded to a call where a minor was suffering from a gunshot wound.
One Monroe Police Officer and three Monroe firemen went against protocol. Instead of the first responders waiting for an ambulance to arrive at the scene, they rushed the juvenile victim to a nearby hospital.
The first responders' efforts saved the juvenile victim's life.
It's one of those things you have to access the situation in seconds. When they saw this three-year-old with a bullet wound, we've got to do something. Five minutes in that situation is a lifetime.
Chief Vic Zordan, Monroe Police Department
An arrest warrant has been obtained for the suspect, Exzavion Gives, who is wanted for Second-Degree Cruelty to a Juvenile, Illegal Use of a Weapon, and Obstruction of Justice.
