Family of slain young mother seeks justice 5 years after unsolved murder

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A family is searching for answers over an unsolved case five years after a young mother was murdered in Portland.

KOIN 6 News spoke with Logan Nettleton's mother even as Oregon Crime Stoppers is now offering a reward for new information in the homicide case.

The group is offering up to $2,500 in cash to anyone with anonymous tips that lead to an arrest.

Mya Chamberlin describes her only daughter, Logan, as "a superstar" and "just the coolest human being."

"She just had a trajectory and she was ferociously independent," Mya said.

Investigators said Logan was killed in an early morning shooting in Portland’s Centennial neighborhood on August 30, 2019.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots around 3 a.m. at the Foothills Apartments complex on Southeast 174th Avenue.

Portland police found the 19-year-old Logan, who died at the scene. A man, identified as Logan's boyfriend at the time, was also shot multiple times but was taken to the hospital and survived. There was also a child at the scene of the shooting (not Logan's son) inside of the upstairs apartment who was not hurt and was later taken care of.

Logan's son was four years old at the time of her death. He was at his grandparents’ house at a completely separate location when the shooting happened. As years passed, people close to Logan haven't stopped fighting for answers.

"I think five years later, what I feel is like there's no justice in this, not for me, not for Logan's son, and not for the people who killed her," Mya said.

No suspects were arrested in the case.

That's why the Portland Police Bureau is teaming up with Crime Stoppers of Oregon to find more answers.

"Sometimes people don't understand that just because we don't solve something immediately and they may not have heard something for a while, it doesn't mean that we're giving up," said PPB Sergeant Kevin Allen. "With time going by, there might be somebody who is now willing to come forward."

Logan's son, King — Mya's grandson — is now nine years old. Mya hopes getting more answers will help give him closure.

"If anyone with any information would just be willing to come forward and help us understand, and kind of help us put these puzzle pieces together, I would be forever grateful," Mya said.

Anyone with information about what happened the night of Logan's death can submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers of Oregon via their website or the "P3 tips" app on smartphones or tablets.
