APD identifies man killed in east Austin apartment complex shooting
AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Thursday, the Austin Police Department identified the man killed Monday during a shooting at an east Austin apartment complex.
According to APD, at 2:08 p.m., officers responded to the Waterloo Flats apartment complex located at 1300 S. Pleasant Valley Road. The caller stated someone had run up to him and began attacking him.
APD said officers arrived and found a man, later identified as 39-year-old Adrian Lopez, on the ground of the parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound. Police said he later died.
APD's preliminary investigation found Lopez allegedly assaulted an employee out of nowhere and threatened him with pepper spray. Police said it ultimately led to the employee shooting his attacker.
According to police, no charges were currently being filed; however, the case is still under investigation.
This case is being investigated as Austin's 42nd homicide of 2024.
