However, Crystal Palace have continued to hold firm on their position in demanding at least £70million for the centre-back.

But former Watford ace Deeney has suggested that a deal is not off the cards.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday, Deeney claimed he had “a little bit of insight” into the deal.

The 36-year-old said: “I still think he’ll move.”

When questioned about whether the move would specifically be to Newcastle or another club in this window, Deeney repeated the line: “I still think he moves.

“I think he’ll move tomorrow. That’s what I’m hearing.”

Earlier this week it appeared a deal was edging closer.

Although reports today suggested the Eagles had upped their asking price to a whopping £75m.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner has also said Guehi will remain at Selhurst Park.

He told reporters on Friday: “Congratulations to our owners because they didn’t give up.

“He always told me that he’s not pushing to leave Crystal Palace.”

Speaking on the state of his squad ahead of deadline day, Toon boss Eddie Howe said: “There’s such a short time left, it is looking difficult.

“This window, as I’ve said many times, has been difficult and it continues to be difficult for us.

“We’re in a really difficult situation with the PSR situation and available funds, attracting the right players and the players that we think can make a difference. It’s such a delicate spot for us.

“We’ve got to try to hit it right and if we don’t, then probably doing nothing, as frustrating as that is, is probably the best option.”

In the case of Palace, they sold Joachim Andersen to Fulham for £30m but suffered a major blow with new signing Chadi Riad being sidelined with possible ligament damage.
