‘Unless’ – Postecoglou comments on his deadline day expectations at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur have a big game against Newcastle United this weekend, but all eyes are on the potential incomings and outgoings at the club as the transfer deadline fast approaches. Speaking to the press today, Ange Postecoglou discussed whether the club will do any further business.

Spurs staying out of deadline day panic

Despite a slow start, it has been a fairly productive summer for Spurs. The club has moved on just about every fringe player in the squad, be it through player sales, loan moves, or contracts coming to an end.

Postecoglou has also added a new striker to his squad in Dominic Solanke, Wilson Odobert provides more strength on the wings, while young midfielders Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall offer something exciting in the middle of the park.

While fans are relatively happy with that business, there is a desire to see something else before the transfer window closes.

Speaking to the press today (via Football.London), Postecoglou had bad news for anyone expecting another signing before the deadline hits tonight.

When asked if the club is done for transfers, he said: “Yeah, I think so unless something surprising jumps out. No, I think that is it.”

It seems, then, that the only activity Spurs fans can look forward to on deadline day is a couple of players potentially leaving.

Postecoglou was asked about the situations facing Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon, and said: “Not really sure. Both players exploring options and I don’t get too involved in that. It’s been them, their representatives and the club. I don’t know what activity there is, but they’re exploring options.”

Well, this is disappointing. I didn’t really expect us to sign anyone else, but to hear it all but confirmed it a bit deflating. Hopefully, we do have a surprise up our sleeves, but I really wouldn’t count on it.
