Redditor Coldbrewcult shared her final step for keeping her look lasting longer.
“I use hairspray as setting spray when I’m in a pinch,” she said.
“I did this once in front of a friend, and she nearly had a heart attack.
“This is an OG drag trick that definitely shouldn’t be dismissed.”
CAUGHT IN THE AQUANET
Another Redditor chimed in to share their experience using hairspray to set makeup.
“Oh my God, I buy Aquanet solely for this purpose,” she said.
“[It] works amazing for stage makeup. I actually prefer it to the real setting sprays and it’s so much cheaper.”
Coldbrewcult enthusiastically agreed, calling Aquanet “the move.”

Some expressed concern that the method could cause breakouts, but Coldbrewcult stood by her method.
“I have combination skin and I’ve never had a problem,” she said.

Although using hairspray as a method for setting makeup has been used by old-school drag queens, there are many more options today than there have been in the past.
According to Medline Plus, hairsprays contain harsh ingredients that may be detrimental to the complexion, as they are formulated for hair.
Incorrect use could lead to hairspray poisoning when the product is inhaled or enters the eyes.
There is also a high alcohol content in sprays like Aquanet, which could lead to dry skin.
As hairspray is formulated for your locks, spraying it on the face could also lead to skin conditions like acne and other lesions.
It is also an ophthalmologist’s nightmare, as spraying hairspray on the delicate eye area could cause damage.
Despite several setting sprays at a variety of price points on the market, many are sticking to their old faithful.
“They don’t make setting sprays as good as they make hairsprays,” another Redditor wrote.
“I’ve tried the OGs like Urban Decay All Nighter, the MILK one, and Ben Nye Final Seal.
“None of them did as good of a job as my $4 Suave hairspray.”
