'Double-digit denial': Arizona columnist roasts Kari Lake for flailing Senate bid

Kari Lake is again becoming the butt of jokes in her home state as she desperately tries to promote her candidacy for the U.S. Senate, an Arizona columnist wrote on Friday.

Writing for AZCentral, columnist Laurie Roberts cited a new Fox News poll showing Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) beating Lake by 15 points.

"Gallego is crushing it with women, Hispanics, non-white voters and voters young and old," she explained. "Moderates are breaking for him 2-1, and even a quarter of conservatives are leaning toward Gallego, according to the poll of 1,014 voters, conducted Aug. 23-26."

Like with any poll showing her losing, Lake described it as "garbage," but even more conservative estimations show Gallego winning outside of the margin of error. Polls by Noble Predictive Insights, HighGround Public Affairs, and a New York Times/Siena poll all show Gallego is up more than five percent.

Lake, however, insists they're tied.

Roberts is concerned that this might be the birth of Lake's new election conspiracy.

"Lake is either catastrophically clueless or preparing her hard right base to storm the Capitol and the courts, assaulting the state with yet another round of conspiratorial cries that yet another Arizona election has been stolen," she said, acknowledging it could also be both.

Than again, Roberts explained, Lake has never made any overtures to get voters beyond her base, a necessity in a state-wide election.

"The poll showed the presidential race within the 3% margin of error, with Harris at 48 and Trump at 47," she explained. "Gallego, meanwhile, leads Lake 56-41."

This means that even some Trump supporters are behind Gallego and not Lake.
