Two teens dead after moped crash on Cross Island Parkway
WHITESTONE, Queens (PIX11) -- Two teens are dead after an early morning crash on the Cross Island Parkway, police say.
A 15-year-old was illegally driving a moped on the parkway along with a 19-year-old passenger, according to authorities. That’s when police say the 15-year-old lost control of the scooter and ran into a barrier wall at 150th Street.
The 19-year-old was found dead at the scene while the 15-year-old was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Officials did not find plates on the moped but say it was registered to a location near where the 15-year-old lived. The driver was not legally allowed to be operating the vehicle.
