Peak of the heat arrives Saturday around Portland metro

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A KOIN 6 Weather Alert remains in place Saturday around western Oregon and southwest Washington.

The summer heat this week peaks on Saturday as temperatures return to the low-mid to upper-90s. The high heat could pose a threat to those who are sensitive to high temperatures. Those spending a prolonged amount of time outside or who have no means of keeping cool will be at a higher risk.

Oregonians will be spending time outside in the heat with multiple sporting events, an air show, and other summer holiday activities. Staying hydrated, wearing loose-fitting and light-colored clothes while taking frequent breaks indoors will be essential to staying safe in the high heat.

This weekend's heat will start to fade by Labor Day Monday. That's where an increase in clouds will help drop temperatures back into the upper 70s.

Another gradual warming trend takes shape by the middle of next week. That's where highs will return to the low 90s, but only for a few days. Another cooling trend is expected by the following weekend.
