Traffic expected on I-5 Saturday due to Ducks, Beavers games

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Officials are warning to be ready for traffic on Interstate 5 this weekend as both Oregon State and University of Oregon have home games.

According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, Interstate 5 gets particularly busy on days when both schools have games and they are advising that drivers planning on using the road or attending the games, should plan ahead and be prepared.

The Oregon State Beaver's game starts first at 3:30 p.m. and the University of Oregon Ducks begins an hour later meaning traffic for both games could be traveling the road at the same time.

ODOT also said that drivers can better avoid the traffic by considering other transport methods like the Amtrak Cascades train which travels between Portland and Eugene.

Eugene police also sent out a release advising drivers to be careful on game day, telling drivers to plan ahead, take public transit if possible and not to drink and drive.

In all cases, officials advise that drivers be patient as there will be many people traveling to and from the games.
