WATCH: Mumbai Police Officers Caught ‘Planting’ Drugs On Man In Viral CCTV Clip, Suspended

Mumbai Police: Four personnel of the Mumbai Police were suspended on Saturday after a viral CCTV clip allegedly showed them planting drugs on a man during a raid. A senior police officer said that a sub-inspector and three constables of the Mumbai Police’s Anti-Terror Cell have been placed under suspension with immediate effect., pending further inquiry.

A CCTV footage went viral on social media showing four plain-clothed police officers conducting a raid in Kalina area of Mumbai city. During the raid, one of the officers can be seen slipping something in the hip pocket of the suspect, later identified as Daniel.

A PTI report, citing sources, said the four policemen, attached to the Anti-Terror Cell of the Khar police station, raided an open plot of land in Kalina area of the city on Friday evening and detained a man called Daniel.

After the video went viral, Daniel told a local news channel that the cops allegedly threatened to frame him in a case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act but later released him after after realising that their actions were captured in a CCTV camera.

Another person, reportedly an associate of Daniel, while speaking to a news channel alleged that he was targeted at the behest of a builder over a dispute regarding the plot where the incident took place.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone XI) Rajtilak Roshan said the four policemen have been suspended pending a departmental inquiry, adding that disciplinary action was initiated against them for not following set procedure and for suspected actions as seen in the video.

“They reached the spot after getting information about drugs, but everything (they did) is seen in the CCTV,” PTI quoted the DCP as saying.
