Kamala Harris’ Stepdaughter Ella Emhoff Abruptly Stops Project to ‘Protect’ Herself

While many know her as both a model and US Vice President (and Presidential candidate) Kamala Harris‘ stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff is a woman of many talents. She’s an artist, a sister, an activist, and an insanely talented knitter. Back in 2023, she even founded the Soft Hands Knit Club, which was a club people could join to learn knitting skills alongside her, but now, because of the election, she is canceling it until further notice.

On Aug 29, she posted a video to her Instagram with the caption reading, “#softhandsknitclub #5 #ever.”

In this video, she gave the announcement that she’ll be pausing the club until further notice.

“I just wanted to quickly come talk about Knit Club and address how it’s moving forward. Um, unfortunately, with everything going on right now, I am unable to conduct them, just to protect myself and other club members,” she said.

“The smartest thing is to just hold off until things calm down. But uh, yeah, it has been amazing working on this and meeting all of you and has just felt so special to just build this little community, and I’m going to keep working on ways to make it more accessible and keep—keep building it while I’m not able to properly teach and host these,” she said. “So, yeah, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been here with me so far. It’s been pretty amazing. And I will be back, back to knitting—teaching knitting—I’m still knitting.”

It’s such a shame that a creative outlet has to be paused due to this volatile election, but we, as well as many of her loyal fans, eagerly await for her to return the club when she feels safe enough to do so.

In a previous interview with Office Magazine, she talked about her goal with the club, proudly saying: “I want to teach as many people to knit as possible.”
