Man in court charged with murder of mum who was ‘stabbed in face with broken bottles’
A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a mum who was stabbed in the head and face with broken bottles in her flat.
Brodie MacGregor, 23, was found dead at the property in Springburn, Glasgow, shortly after 10am on the day she was attacked last Monday.
Alexander Brennan, 52, of Stenhousemuir, was remanded into custody following a hearing at the city’s Sheriff Court.
He is described as Brodie’s ‘partner or ex-partner’ in court documents, which allege he inflicted repeated blows to her face, head and body with broken glass bottles.
Brennan will appear at court again within the next eight days.
Tributes have been paid to the mother by heartbroken family and friends in the wake of her death.
John Brown said: ‘Just seen this on the news, such a shame. Her poor wee laddie left without a mother.’
Angela McGowan added: ‘Poor girl. Her wee boy left without his Mummy. Absolutely heartbreaking. R.I.P Brodie.’
Scotland’s police watchdog is now investigating the circumstances of Brodie’s death after it emerged she was killed following earlier police contact.
The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) is leading the inquiry, which has also been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC).
A spokesperson for PIRC said: ‘COPFS has instructed PIRC to investigate the circumstances of the death of a 23-year-old woman following police contact, in Glasgow on August 26, 2024.
‘At the conclusion of our investigation a report will be sent to COPFS.’
