Vince Morales is innovating on the regional scene.

“Vandetta” won his fifth straight fight since parting ways with the UFC, utilizing a unique variation of the Peruvian necktie to tap out fellow UFC veteran Hunter Azure on Friday at United Fight League 5 in Chandler, Ariz.

Check out the impressive submission below.

Peruvian neckties are hard to come by at any level of MMA, but Morales put his own twist on it to finish Azure in the third round and claim the UFL bantamweight title. Of Morales’ five straight wins, four have come by way of knockout or submission.

Morales (16-7) saw mixed results in his UFC run, going 3-5 with wins over Louis Smolka, Drako Rodriguez, and Aiemann Zahabi. However, back-to-back losses to Miles Johns and Jonathan Martinez in 2022 led to Morales parting ways with the promotion.

In a message passed along to MMA Fighting by Morales’ management, the fighter explained how he put his spin on the Peruvian necktie:

“So far I haven’t seen anyone hit any variation of the Peruvien necktie like that one,” Morales wrote. “Main thing is instead of the hamstring going across the back of the head, the shin goes up against the neck to apply pressure on the carotid. More so like the D’Arce meets a Peruvian using the legs.”

Azure (11-4) is now 2-2 since his UFC run ended in 2021. He won the UFL bantamweight title this past April with a second-round knockout of Amun Cosme. Azure actually had a chance to fight his way back to the UFC in 2023 when he joined the cast of The Ultimate Fighter 31, but he was eliminated in the opening round of that season’s bantamweight tournament by Rico DiSciullo.
