Cowboys Beat South Dakota State to End Jackrabbits' Winning Streak

Oklahoma State's football team got big games from quarterback Alan Bowman and running back Ollie Gordon and beat South Dakota State 44-20 at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater on Saturday.

The OSU win ended the Jackrabbits' 29-game winning streak.

Bowman passed for 267 yards and three touchdowns, while Gordon rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns.

South Dakota State got the ball first and moved into OSU territory, but turned the ball over on downs.

The Cowboys then moved into field goal range before settling for a 42-yard field goal by Logan Ward to put OSU up 3-0 with 8:15 to play.

The Jackrabbits turned the ball over on their next possession, as quarterback Mark Gronowski was intercepted by Korie Black at the South Dakota State 47-yard line.

It took OSU seven plays to convert the turnover into points, with Alan Bowman passing to Brennan Presley for a 6-yard touchdown to put the Cowboys on top 10-0 with 2:03 to play in the first quarter.

Late in the first quarter, Amar Johnson gained 40 yards on a run to the OSU 30-yard line.

The Cowboy defense stiffened and held the Jackrabbits to a 31-yard field goal by Hunter Dustman to cut OSU's lead to 10-3 with 12:15 to play in the second quarter.

Oklahoma State responded with a 10-play, 74-yard drive, with Ollie Gordon scoring on a 12-yard touchdown run to extend OSU's lead to 17-3 with 8:35 to play in the second quarter.

SDSU responded with a 29-yard pass from Mark Gronowski to Grahm Goering.

It set up a 47-yard field goal by Dustman to cut OSU's lead to 17-6 with 3:52 to play in the second quarter.

OSU got the ball to start the second half and marched 65 yards in 10 plays, with Bowman passing to Gordon for a 22-yard touchdown to put the Pokes up 24-6 with 10:46 to play in the third quarter.

The Jackrabbits immediately answered with a 75 yard drive in just three plays.

Gronowski passed to Griffin Wilde for 33 yards to the OSU 21-yard line.

On the next play, Gronowski passed to Goering for a touchdown in the left corner of the end zone to cut OSU's lead to 24-13 with 9:10 to play in the third quarter.

The Cowboys responded with an 81-yard drive in six plays, with Bowman passing deep to Rashod Owens for a 58-yard touchdown to make it 31-13 OSU with 6:29 to go in the third quarter.

After forcing a South Dakota State punt, OSU went 56 yards in 7 plays, with Gordon scoring from a yard out to make it 38-13 Cowboys with 2:29 to play in the third.

The Jackrabbits tried a fake punt early in the fourth quarter, but the pass fell incomplete.

OSU then converted the mistake into a 52-yard field goal by Logan Ward to make it 41-13 Cowboys with 13:50 left.

It took SDSU just three plays to respond, with Gronowski passing to Griffin Wilde for a 60-yard touchdown to cut the OSU lead to 41-20 with 12:10 to play.

Gronowski passed for 264 yards and two scores, while Wilde had 7 catches for 150 yards.

The Cowboys added a 25-yard field goal from Ward to provide the final points with 1:10 to play.

OSU only outgained SDSU by six yards, 394 to 388 total.

South Dakota State had entered the game with a 29-game winning streak and having won back-to-back national championships in the NCAA FCS division.

The Cowboys host Arkansas next Saturday at 11:00 am.
