WATCH: Ohio State marching band honors Buckeye legend Archie Griffin

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- The Ohio State University Marching Band celebrated the music of Earth, Wind & Fire in its first halftime show of the Ohio State football season, which concluded with Buckeye legend Archie Griffin dotting the "i." The heat did not deter attending fans, who witnessed "Got to Get You into My Life," "September" and "Let's Groove" among other Earth, Wind & Fire hits, as well as a tribute to two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin.

Arranged by Ohio State music professor Ted McDaniel, The Best Damn Band In The Land decorated the field as it played. Formations spelled out "earth" "wind" and "fire," and included dancing stick figures enjoying "Boogie Wonderland."

At the conclusion of the halftime set, Archie Griffin became the 17th person outside of the band to dot the "i." This is considered the greatest honor the band can extend to a non-member, and the band said this recognition was presented by the current "i-dotters," or the senior sousaphone members of the band.

Band representatives said they visited Griffin in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center in early July to surprise him with the invitation. This is the second Buckeye honor bestowed on Griffin this weekend, following the unveiling of a statue memorializing the Buckeye legend yesterday afternoon.
