Kit Connor Talks Filming Intimate Scenes With Joe Locke for 'Heartstopper' Season 3

Kit Connor opened up about filming sex scenes with his Heartstopper costar and onscreen boyfriend Joe Locke.

The 20-year-old actor plays Nick Nelson on the popular Netflix series, which returns for its third season in October.

While Nick and his boyfriend Charlie Spring (Locke) have had a relatively tame love life in the first two seasons, Kit explained that their relationship has evolved and gotten more intimate in the new episodes.

In fact, they spent hours filming sex scenes, which he reflected on in a new interview. He also revealed if he felt that he had outgrown the show and discussed his own coming out experience.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Kit said that he and Joe have taken “baby steps” towards intimacy over the years of filming.

“Season one, [the intimacy coordinator] would be there making sure that we were comfortable holding hands. And now we’re doing the sex scenes.”

He continued, explaining, “We shot a lot of footage for them. Not much actually ended up in the show. But we shot the sex scenes for about seven hours!”

Kit added that his offscreen friendship with Joe made it easier for them to share the intimate moments on camera, and that the cast would get together to hang out after it was all done.

Does he feel that he’s gotten too old to be playing a high school-aged student? “I wouldn’t say that we’ve outgrown the show because the show is growing in itself,” he replied.

Amid accusations of queerbaiting for his role in the show, Kit came out as bisexual in October 2022.

“I really don’t think about it all that often, I’ve got to say, which I’m happy about,” he said when asked about the experience nearly two years later. “I spoke about it endlessly. I think I said everything that there was to possibly ever say about that topic. I’ve moved on and I feel much better for it.”
