Sabrina Carpenter is shouting out Nicki Minaj as she battles for the top spot on the charts with her new album Short n Sweet, and you might be wondering why.

The 25-year-old “Espresso” pop star dropped her album on August 23 and is currently in a tight race for the top spot on the Billboard 200. Her chief competition is Travis Scott, who released an anniversary edition of his mixtape Days Before Rodeo.

Both musicians have released multiple variants of their projects in an effort to drum up additional sales and to secure the lead. We’ll find out who won on Sunday (September 1).

As the tracking week came to a close, Sabrina took to social media to dedicate her efforts to Nicki. That’s because the situation that we’re currently in mirrors one that played out between Nicki and Travis back in 2018.

“This one’s for Nicki,” Sabrina wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday (August 29). Her message prompted a response from Nicki, who showed her love on an Instagram Live.

If you forgot, back in 2018, Nicki unleashed on Travis after her album Queen debuted at the No. 2 spot on the charts behind Travis, who sold his album Astroworld in bundles that promoted it and an upcoming tour.

She doubled down on her radio show at the time, saying, “It’s because Travis Scott is out here selling f–king clothes, and got y’all thinking he’s selling f–king music.”

She continued, saying, “What we’re not going to do is have this Auto-Tune man coming up here selling f–king sweaters and telling y’all he sold half a million f–king albums, ’cause he didn’t.”

At the time, one of Nicki‘s other musical friends also threw shade at Travis amid the feud.
