Rain chances decrease early in the week, increase again mid-week

A broad area of low pressure continues to sit across the Texas coast and the northwestern Gulf. Rain and storm activity has consolidated offshore around this low pressure area. Most of the storms will be across coastal areas this morning, but storms will move inland later in the afternoon. Overall, rain coverage will be around 60% for the day.

Rain chances go down temporarily for Labor Day and Tuesday as a push of northerly flow pushes the deeper tropical moisture further offshore. We'll see some storm development each afternoon, as the sun destabilizes the atmosphere, but rain coverage will only be around 30%. We could see more sunshine as well, pushing high temperatures into the 90s both Monday and Tuesday.

As a front approaches the area Wednesday and Thursday, the deeper tropical moisture will be funneled northward once again. Widespread rain and storms are anticipated both Wednesday and Thursday.

The front makes the passage through the area on Friday, followed by drier air and the potential for a nice weekend ahead!

TROPICS

The tropics remain active with several areas of interest.

  1. A broad area of low pressure has a low chance of development as it's expected to meander across the western Gulf through the next several days.
  2. A tropical wave, currently across the Central Atlantic, will move westward into the Caribbean through the next few days. This wave has a 'moderate' chance of tropical development as it moves through the Caribbean through the next week. Interests in the Caribbean and the Gulf will have to monitor the progress of this system.
  3. We're also monitoring more tropical waves near the coast of Africa for tropical development.
