Pilot dies after light aircraft crashes in industrial estate

A pilot has died after a light aircraft crashed in an industrial estate.

The crash happened near land by Sheepbridge Lane, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, shortly after 9am this morning.

An investigation into the circumstances of it is ongoing.

His family has been informed and the pilot was the only person on board the aircraft.

Roads in the area are currently closed and will remain so while police carry out the investigation.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service asked people to avoid the area while emergency services dealt with the incident.

The fire service said it had left the scene at 11.30am and handed over to Derbyshire Constabulary.

The investigation will be handed over to the Air Accident Investigation Bureau.

The aircraft took off from Coal Aston airfield, near Dronfield, according to flight tracking website Flightradar24.

It is a two-seater Evektor SportStar, which is typically used by flight schools.
