Ajinkya Rahane Scores Maiden Century For Leicestershire, Registers 40th First-Class Ton

New Delhi: Former Indian Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has smashed a century for Leicestershire in the County Championship Division Two match against Glamorgan. The right-handed batter has been out of the Indian Test team for more than a year now, he came out to bat at No.4 in the match taking place at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff and with the help of 13 fours and one six he scored 102 runs from 193 balls in the second innings.

Talking about the stats, it was his 40th century in first-class cricket and his first one for Leicestershire. Last month, BCCI selectors did not consider him for the Duleep Trophy 2024. He earlier scored 42 runs in the first innings.

Last year in July, Ajinkya Rahane played his last match against West Indies in the two-match Test series. Now, he has scored a century at the right time as BCCI selectors are set to announce India’s squad for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh in the upcoming days.

India will be facing the Asian rivals in a two-match series at home. The first Test is scheduled to take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19 onwards, and the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur will host the second match from September 27.

After facing Bangladesh, India will take on New Zealand in a three-match Test series at home and then fly to Australia for a five-match Test series. The 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to start on November 22 in Perth, and the next four matches will be played in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, respectively.

Ajinkya Rahane has done a lot of things for Indian cricket, he was the captain of the Indian team in the last three Tests of the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and under his leadership India won the Melbourne and Brisbane Tests to win their second ever Test series on Australian pitches.
