Casemiro made two shocking errors for the Reds’ first two goals, but Keane was also left dismayed by the decision-making of United’s full-backs.

In the build-up to Liverpool’s opener both Dalot and Mazraoui charged upfield, and when Casemiro gifted away possession the United defence was left in a vulnerable position.

Liverpool were immediately five on three and neither full-back was able to get back in time to prevent Mo Salah crossing for Luis Diaz to score.

Keane slammed the full-back pair at half-time as he criticised Casemiro.

He said on Sky Sports: “Mistake from Casemiro here for all his experience. That is not a first time pass it’s not worth the risk. And when they lose it they are all over the place.

“They’ve done this for the last couple of games and got away with it.

“Look at your right-back, where is your right-back? Where is your left-back!? You’re not in control.

“You can’t give the ball away that cheaply and it’s happened a number of times and at this level it’s brutal.”

United’s midfield was outplayed by Liverpool with Keane’s colleague Jamie Carragher adding to the pile on.

He said: “Man Utd having Casemiro, Fernandes, Eriksen, McTominay, Mount, now Ugarte, Mainoo… and they’ve absolutely destroyed them, that three in midfield for Liverpool today.

“And that shouldn’t be happening. I think that’s a real pressure point for Erik ten Hag.

“This Liverpool three in midfield have outplayed, out-fought them – they way they set up, found space.

“He (Erik ten Hag) has got to try to get more out of the players he’s got at his disposal, because they are not bad players.”
