Christodoulides repeats ready to meet Tatar

President Nikos Christodoulides on Monday expressed his readiness for a tripartite meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar in New York.

Speaking to a pool of reporters outside Tepak university in Limassol, he said “I have been sounded out for two, three specific dates and I responded positively.”

Christodoulides is slated to head to New York for the upcoming UN General Assembly, on the sidelines of which a possible meeting could be held.

Last week, sources said efforts are ongoing to arrange a tripartite meeting between Christodoulides, Tatar and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The sources said the Turkish Cypriot side remains firm in its positions, and this is unlikely to change, but “we will see how the UN Secretary-General handles it.”

They did not rule out that “the situation could evolve in a way that might allow something to be achieved in the end, but we will only know this as things progress and we see how the situation unfolds”.

According to the same information, the next one or two weeks “will contribute to providing a clearer outlook.”
