‘Next level’ – Paul Merson names Tottenham in the top three for summer signings

Paul Merson is confident that Dominic Solanke will prove a massive hit at Tottenham, backing the centre-forward to take this Spurs side to the next level.

Solanke arrives at Tottenham on the back of a prolific season for Bournemouth, where he found the back of the net 21 times across all competitions, which is not a mean feat considering that the Cherries finished in the bottom half of the table last season.

However, not everyone is convinced that the 26-year-old is a good addition for Spurs, with some questioning the fee the North London club have paid for the centre-forward.

This includes the likes of Graeme Souness, who have described the signing as a ‘gamble’, pointing out that the Tottenham newcomer has only had one good season at the highest level (talkSPORT).

However, Merson has said that Spurs’ signing of Solanke is one of the top three best additions of the summer window, suggesting that goals will come for the Englishman as long as he keeps making the right runs.

The former Arsenal man said on his X handle about the former Bournemouth star: “I think he is an outstanding signing for Tottenham. I think he takes them to the next level, Tottenham.

“I think he scores a lot of goals. I know he missed a few against Leicester, kept on getting into positions and you have got to be there to miss them.”

As always, the 24-hour media cycle has generated a lot of opinions already on Solanke, even though he has only played 90 minutes of football for Tottenham.

Given the number of chances the Spurs create, the striker will certainly get plenty of chances over the course of the season and stands a decent shot of matching his goal tally from last season.
