Over 72,000 people leave Afghanistan in one week

The International Organization for Migration has reported that between August 19 and August 24, a total of 72,624 people left Afghanistan for Iran and Pakistan.

According to the report, Iran is the destination for 51% of the migrants who left Afghanistan during this period.

At the same time, at least 64,950 Afghan citizens were expelled from Iran and Pakistan during the same timeframe.

The report indicates that migration out of Afghanistan and migration return have increased by 15% compared to the weeks preceding the mentioned dates.

The migration wave that has emerged since the Taliban’s return to power three years ago has not only continued but has also seen a significant rise.

On the other hand, the primary destinations for Afghan migrants, Iran and Pakistan, have implemented mass deportation programs as part of their immigration policies.

The recent increase in migration from Afghanistan and the heightened deportation efforts by neighboring countries underscore the urgent need for coordinated international support and humanitarian assistance. Addressing the root causes of displacement and ensuring humane treatment for migrants are crucial steps in managing this escalating crisis.
