Police: One dies in accidental Poestenkill Gorge Park drowning
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Troy Police Department has confirmed that it is investigating the drowning of a 26-year-old Troy man. The incident happened on Sunday at Poestenkill Gorge Park on Linden Avenue in Troy.
Rensselaer County Bureau of Public Safety Dispatchers received reports of a possible drowning at the park just after 3 p.m. When first responders arrived, they reported finding an unconscious man who had just been pulled from the water.
According to the police, lifesaving measures were conducted at the scene and on the way to the hospital, but the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. The police investigation determined that the man was visiting the park with family and friends when he started experiencing trouble swimming in a prohibited area.
Bystanders attempted to rescue the victim from the water and police say there is no indication of criminality in the incident. The police ask anyone who may have observed anything in the area to contact Troy Police at (518) 270-4421.
The police also ask everyone visiting the park to remain in the authorized areas only for the safety of all.
