Kulusevski reveals Spurs are doing ‘everything’ to improve in one key area

Despite making a lot of progress over the last year with Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham still have plenty to work on. According to Dejan Kukusevski, one aspect of their game is being pushed hard in training in order to improve.

Set-pieces are a focus for Spurs

Last season, Spurs were criticised for conceding too many goals at set-pieces, with Guglielmo Vicario in particular criticised for not commanding his area enough and being outmuscled by opponents.

At the other end, the Lilywhites ranked 12th in the division for goals scored from set-pieces, registering just 11 all season. Rivals Arsenal were top of that list, with 20 goals from dead ball situations (90Min).

This season, Tottenham have already registered one goal from set-pieces, and could have had another were it not for an offside flag ruling out Cristian Romero‘s header at the weekend.

Discussing the marked improvement from those scenarios so far this season, Kulusevski told Football.London that there has been a particular emphasis on this element of the game in training, and that the team are striving to find more ways to score in general.

He said: “We do it in training, everything we can to score. It was a good thing and almost a goal. We’ve got to keep working on everything and enjoy.”

Nick Montgomery helping out

As per the article from Football.London, new coach Nick Montgomery has played a big role in improving those set-piece routines for Spurs.

It is thought Montgomery is heavily involved in organising both defensive and attacking set-pieces in training.

Offensively, we are putting the ball in the right place, and players are attacking the ball a lot better, too. It’s such an important part of the game and can benefit us massively if we get it right.
