Wenaas, Halter named SEC volleyball players of the week

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The top-ranked Texas Longhorns volleyball team started the 2024 season on the right foot Sunday, and two players were named Southeastern Conference players of the week for their performances.

Following the Longhorns' 3-1 win over No. 3 Wisconsin at the State Farm Women's Volleyball Showcase in Milwaukee, senior outside hitter Jenna Wenaas and junior libero Emma Halter earned SEC weekly honors.

Wenaas was named the conference's overall and offensive player of the week while Halter was tabbed as the defensive player of the week. Wenaas powered the Longhorns by the Badgers with 18 kills and 10 digs, her first double-double performance during her career with Texas. Halter was everywhere defensively for the Longhorns with a career-high 28 digs. She added five assists and an ace.

Texas takes on No. 18 Minnesota at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Milwaukee before returning to Gregory Gym for its home opener Thursday against Indiana.
