Liverpool could sign a player from one of their biggest rivals in a controversial move.
According to Football Insider, the Merseyside club are interested in signing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
The report states that the Premier League giants have concrete interest in signing the English centre-back.
Branthwaite has attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world after his impressive performances for Sean Dyche’s Everton side.
The young defender has made quick progress and has developed into one of the best defenders in the league.
As per the report, the player is open to leave Everton and join their biggest rivals Liverpool.
Players do not usually leave one side of the Merseyside to join the other side but the Everton defender is ready to do the unthinkable.
Branthwaite’s big move is not far away and with the Toffees struggling every season, a bigger club will steal him from the blue side of the Merseyside.
However, Everton are in a stronger position due to the contract situation of the player.
Branthwaite has a contract until 2027 at Goodison Park, making it difficult for any other club to sign him at the moment.
Jarrad Branthwaite can replace Van Dijk at Liverpool
The Reds are looking for a new defender to join the club as a long term replacement of Virgil Van Dijk, who has entered the final year of his contract at the club.
