The ultimate 2p hack to remove stubborn yellow stains from your plastic containers with no scrubbing
A SAVVY cleaning whizz has shared the ultimate hack that will make your stained plastic containers look like brand new – and there’s no scrubbing involved.
Although we all love a hearty Spaghetti Bolognese and a hot curry, the cult favourite classics also come with an unfortunate side effect – stained plastic containers.
This is because food-safe plastic is more porous than steel, glass and ceramic, so it will absorb the oils and colours in foods, making the containers more difficult to clean and get rid of lingering smells.
A lot of our favourite dishes also call for tomato – and this highly acidic kitchen staple contain something called lycopene, BBC Science Focus reported.
The hydrophobic nature of lycopene (it repels water) means that it resists any attempts to clean it with soapy water – and turns out, the high temperatures in a dishwasher can drive stains even deeper into your containers.
But luckily, one savvy woman has come to rescue with a trick that’s bound to be a game-changer if you don’t want to fork out for brand-new plastic containers.
Taking to TikTok, the woman who goes by Pressie, revealed how an easy 2p hack almost instantly removed the stubborn stains with no faff.
According to Pressie (@shpresseyyy), you will first need to fill up the container with a little bit of water before chucking in a paper towel inside.
This step is then followed by squirting a tiny bit of liquid soap into the water-paper towel mixture and placing the lid on top.
”It’s that simple,” Pressie said in the video, where she demonstrated the easy hack.
The young beauty, believed to be from the US, completed the process with a vigorous shake, watching the paper towel absorb all the orange discoloration.
”It just takes away all the stains – I don’t know how,” Pressie said, before rinsing the soapy mixture with water and revealing the jaw-dropping results.
”It’s literally perfect! You don’t have to scrub for 40 hours to get your sponge to clean it.”
The video has clearly impressed many, as the 2p hack has tacked up more than a staggering 6.2million views and thousands of comments.
One joked: ”The way I’m about to teach my mom how to clean Tupperware.”
Someone else explained why the trick worked so brilliantly, writing: ”The soap pulls the grease out to surface and the paper towel is the final surface for the grease to settle on.
