‘The witch is dead’ Daughter’s scathing obituary for her late mum after she ‘burnt bridges’ leaves people staggered
A DAUGHTER’s scathing obituary for her estranged mother has left people staggered.
Christina Novak hadn’t spoken to her mum – who she refers to as a “witch” – in the 10 years before she passed away.
But she assures her disaffection is for good reason – so much so that she found herself “giggling” while composing the sarcastic eulogy.
Her mum, Florence Harrelson, died aged 65 of heart failure back in February but her obituary (which was written by Christina) wasn’t published by the local newspaper until Thursday.
The obit details how former marine Florence, also known as Flo, died on February 24 in a small town named Glenburn in Maine, US.
It also sensationally notes that she died “without family by her side due to burnt bridges and a wake of destruction left in her path”.
“Florence did not want an obituary or anyone including family to know she died,” it reads.
“That’s because even in death, she wanted those she terrorised to still be living in fear looking over their shoulders.
“So, this isn’t so much an obituary but more of a public service announcement.”
Christina proudly showcased her copywriting skills on social media by posting the obit on TikTok and Facebook.
And if the words weren’t shocking enough, she added the lyrics of “ding, dong, the witch is dead” over the top.
“I found a song fitting for the PSA on my mother,” Christina said about The Wizard of Oz tune.
Her TikTok video sharing the obituary quickly went viral, and to date has totted up over 122,000 views and nearly 5,000 comments.
“This is so bizarre,” one shocked social media user wrote.
“I have no idea what to think about this but… more power to you, I guess,” a second penned.
Others praised Christina’s “therapeutic” attempt at coming to terms with the death of her estranged mother.
