Drivers told to expect slow speeds at highway interchange in Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Work crews will be closing two highway exit ramps Wednesday morning for a bridge repair project on U.S. 75.

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) announced in a press release on Sept. 3 that two exit ramps at the U.S. 75 and U.S. 24 interchange will close at 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 4. Weather conditions may change this expected closure.

Kate Craft with KDOT said the closings will impact the southbound U.S. 75 exit ramp to eastbound U.S. 24 and the westbound U.S. 24 exit ramp to southbound U.S. 75. Two detour routes will be available for people to use while the project is ongoing:

  • Southbound U.S. 75 will move to Lower Silver Lake Road, then to northbound U.S. 75 and on to the eastbound U.S. 24 exit.
  • Westbound traffic on U.S. 24 will be sent to Menoken Road, then east to U.S. 24 and southbound to the U.S. 75 exit.

Drivers are encouraged to follow the marked detour routes or other alternative routes which are not marked. People should expect delays when driving through these areas.
