Radar issue at Newark Airport leaves travelers stranded after Labor Day

NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) – Stranded holiday travelers at Newark Liberty International Airport are hoping their flights get off the ground on Tuesday.

A radar issue at the airport caused numerous delays and cancellations, according to the FAA. There were at least 456 delays and 64 cancellations at Newark on Monday, according to FlightAware.

Airlines were forced to divert flights to other airports as a result. Some passengers got word of the flight disruptions while sitting on planes on the tarmac.

Despite the radar issue, some flights were able to arrive and depart with delays. The issue is under investigation, per the FAA.

The setback comes as the TSA expects this Labor Day to be the busiest on record.
