Columbus gas prices drop for third consecutive week
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – The cost for a gallon of gasoline in the Columbus area continued to fall, albeit slightly, to mark a third-consecutive week of falling prices at the pump.
After prices dropped by over 27 cents the previous two weeks, the cost of a gallon of gasoline dropped by 3.1 cents last week, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 500 stations, making the average price in the Columbus area $3.27.
The current price is 20.2 cents per gallon lower than one month ago and 35.4 cents lower per gallon than this time one year ago. In Ohio, the average price of gas ticked up ever-so-slightly by 0.6 cents per gallon, from $3.21 per gallon to $3.22 per gallon.
The cheapest gas station in the Columbus area was priced at $2.83 a gallon, while the most expensive was $3.69, a difference of 86 cents per gallon.
Nationally, gas prices also experienced a drop of 4.6 cents per gallon to reach $3.28, while the price of diesel continues to hit new lows since January 2022, settling at $3.65 per gallon.
According to GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis Patrick De Haan, prices could continue to fade now that the summer season is officially over.
“We have much to look forward to for the fall: more drops at the pump as demand drops seasonally, and the changeover to cheaper winter gasoline is just two weeks away," said De Haan. "As long as we don't see a major hurricane head into the Gulf and the situation improves in the Middle East, the national average could fall below $3 in the next two months.”
