Bangladesh Create History With Test Series Win Over Pakistan, Whitewash Shan Masood-Led Team 2-0
Bangladesh cricket team have rewritten history in the two-match Test series against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. Their six-wicket win over the hosts in Rawalpindi in the second Test on Tuesday (September 3) ensured that it would secure their first-ever Test series win over Pakistan.
The visitors resumed at 42 for no loss, requiring 143 more runs to win on the fifth and final day. Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side batted sensibly to overhaul the modest target set by Shan Masood-led Pakistan team.
Opener Zakir Hasan continued to bat aggressively, smashing 40 off 39 balls with 2 sixes and 3 fours. But after Hasan’s dismissal by Mir Hamza, the rest of the Bangladeshi batters decided to forego any risk. Skipper Shanto scored 38 (82b, 5×4) while Mominul Haque scored 34 (71b, 4×4) to chip away at the target.

It was left to Bangladesh’s two most experienced batters – wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim and all-rounder Shakib al Hasan to guide the side home by scoring unbeaten 22 and 21 respectively. Bangladesh had won the first Test by 10 wickets last week.
It was a sensational comeback by the visiting team to win the second Test after being 26 for 6 in their first innings on Day 3 of the 2nd Test after Pakistan had posted 274. A brilliant 138 off 228 balls by Litton Das along with his 165-run partnership with all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who scored 78 led the figtback as Bangladesh conceded a small lead of 12 runs with Pakistan pacer Khurram Shahzad taking 6/90.
In the second innings, Bangladesh bundled out Pakistan for 172 with Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud claiming his maiden five-wicket haul and ending up with figures of 5/43 while fast bowler Nahid Rana scalped 4/44, including the wicket of Babar Azam.
Bangladesh have now become the 3rd Asian side after India and Sri Lanka to win a Test series in Pakistan. “It was a fantastic effort from the boys, hard work and dedication throughout the series, absolutely fantastic. As a fast bowler, I was looking for wickets, the boys put in the effort and really deserved this win. You have to take advantage of our fast bowlers, in world cricket, it’s important for the pacers and the spinners to combine and do well,” Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud said after the match.
Shanto’s side will next take on Rohit Sharma-led Team India in a two-match Test series beginning in Chennai on September 19. The second Test match will be in Kanpur from September 27 onwards.
