Pak Institute for Peace Studies reports surge in terrorist attacks in Pakistan

Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS) reported an increase in terrorist attacks across Pakistan in August compared to the previous month, with 84 individuals killed as a result of these attacks.

The institute, in its report released on Tuesday, September 3rd, stated that at least 166 others were injured in terrorist attacks throughout Pakistan.

According to the report, 29 attacks occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 28 in Balochistan, and two others in Punjab during the past month.

The Institute emphasized that during the past two months, 23 military operations aimed at clearing insurgents have been conducted across Pakistan, resulting in at least 88 insurgents and 18 security personnel killed in these operations.

The institute noted that most of these attacks were carried out by militant groups such as the “Baloch Liberation Army,” “Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan,” “ISIS Khorasan,” Lashkar-e-Islam, and the group “Hafiz Gul Bahadur” in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It urged Islamabad to develop an effective “anti-terrorism” strategy and enhance border security with Afghanistan and Iran.

Earlier, the Institute had stated that nearly a thousand military and civilians were killed in “terrorist” attacks across the country in 2023.

These developments underscore the ongoing challenge of terrorism in Pakistan, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to combat extremism and ensure national security.
