McGirt arrested in Seminole County after failing to register as sex offender
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) — Jimcy McGirt was booked into the Seminole County Jail on Saturday night after reportedly failing to register as a sex offender, a tribal court judge told News 4 on Tuesday.
McGirt, the man at the center of tribal sovereignty case McGirt v. Oklahoma, was previously released on probation back in May. After being convicted of multiple sex crimes against a child in Muscogee Nation, McGirt received a life sentence from federal authorities in 2021.
However, after a 2023 appeal and plea bargain, McGirt was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
According to a report in May from KOSU, McGirt's attorney said he would register as a sex offender and move to an unspecified rural location.
No additional information about McGirt's arrest is available at this time.
