Field of Dreams viewers ‘in tears’ as Freddie Flintoff’s ‘inspiring’ series ends
BBC VIEWERS were left in tears by Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams as the second series came to an end.
The show followed the former Top Gear presenter as he created a brand-new cricket team with a group of promising teens.
Freddie, 46, wanted to inspire a new generation of adolescents to play cricket.
He returned to his hometown of Preston on a mission to prove that anyone can play the sport, regardless of their background.
Fans followed his journey as he struggled after some of the tryouts had never even played the sport before.
Over a number of weeks he attempted to develop this new squad as he wanted to make the lads more confident in themselves.
On the BBC One finale, Freddie took the team on tour as they played a competitive match in India.
The game was tense as one of the young players fell ill and left the pitch early, despite a fantastic performance.
Even though his team was eventually defeated, Freddie was still impressed with their performance and teamwork on the field.
The final scenes showed each member of his team receiving a special cap from the athlete himself to commemorate their shared journey.
Like the players of the professional teams, the hats were personalised with their initials and their respective player numbers.
Fans of the show couldn’t help but break down in tears as they were left completely inspired by the ‘uplifting’ series.
Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – one viewer gushed: “Fabulous series.
“Everyone involved should be so proud of themselves. Well done lads. Well done Freddie and Kyle. Cried happy tears at the end.”
A second stated: “Respect to Freddie, Kyle and all the boys. Brilliant TV and have shed a few tears.”
While a third asked: “Can anyone watch #fieldofdreams without crying?”
“I’m not crying, you are!”, exclaimed a fourth fan.
And a fifth added: “I can’t believe I’m so invested in (and crying about) a bunch of lads I’ve only known for 3 hours.”
Other fans were so impressed by the series and the actions of Freddie, 46, they called for the former cricketer to receive a knighthood from His Majesty The King.
An additional social media user gushed: “Sir Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff has a bit of a ring to it.”
“Arise SIR Freddie!” added someone else.
