Royals include tertiary students in CPL action

The Barbados Royals are making it easier for university students to experience the thrill of live cricket this Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season by offering US$10 tickets for matches at Kensington Oval.

The “University Special” promotion is a recognition of the enthusiasm and passion young cricket fans bring to the game, ensuring that students can be part of the electrifying atmosphere for a reduced price.

The Royals have gone beyond the traditional box office to extend this offer, deploying mobile ticketing agents across four major educational institutions on the island: the University of the West Indies (UWI), the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI), the Barbados Community College (BCC) and Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM). This initiative makes it convenient for students to secure their tickets without having to leave their campuses.

By comparison, ticket prices for adults range from $15 to $30 for weekday games on September 11 and 17, while children’s tickets are priced between $9 and $18. Weekend matches on September 13 and 14 are slightly higher, with adult tickets ranging from $20 to $35 and children’s from $12 to $21. All prices are in USD.

The “University Special” campaign begins on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, during the UWI Science Expo at the UWI Cave Hill Campus, giving students the chance to purchase tickets early and secure their place in the stands for the highly anticipated matches. This promotion is designed to build excitement and ensure that students are not left out of the action as the Royals take on some of the league’s top teams from September 11 to 17.

Jake Lush McCrum, Chief Executive Officer of Royals Sports Group, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative stating: “Last season, we were overwhelmed by the passion our fans brought to Kensington Oval. However, many university students expressed that the cost of tickets kept them from joining in. This new offer is our way of making sure that students can be part of the experience, cheering on the Royals and building a stronger connection with our team. We’re aiming to have the loudest, most energetic crowd in the CPL, and that starts with our young fans.”

The Royals’ home campaign begins on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, with an exciting clash against the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons at 7 p.m. local time. With star players such as Jason Holder, Rovman Powell, Rahkeem Cornwall, David Miller, and Quinton de Kock, the Royals are set to deliver an unforgettable week of cricket. Students can look forward to key matches, including a showdown with last season’s finalists, the Trinbago Knight Riders, on September 13, a face-off with defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors on September 14, and a concluding fixture against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on September 17, 2024.
